Quick take: which one fits your agency?
Choose Whitespark if your analysts want deep, keyword-level rank data and are happy to build the client report from it. Choose Sure Shot Systems Local Rank Tracker if your account managers need one weekly number per client across Google’s four local result types. The deciding factor is where your hours go: into analysis, or into assembling reports.
Whitespark Local Rank Tracker vs Sure Shot Systems: side by side
| Criterion | Whitespark | Sure Shot Systems Local Rank Tracker |
|---|---|---|
| What it measures | Local Packs, Maps and organic results in Google and Bing, desktop and mobile (Local Rank Tracker) | Presence across Google’s four local result types: ads, map pack, organic results and AI answers |
| Headline metric | Visibility Score, weighted by estimated click-through rate | Search Share, one percentage per client, updated weekly |
| Geo-grid | Separate product: Local Ranking Grids, 4 to 225 points | Map pack presence across the service area, counted inside Search Share |
| Billing unit | Location keywords (keywords per tracking location), plus grid credits | Per business, or client slots on the Agency plan |
| AI Overviews and AI Mode | Not listed on the rank tracker or grid pages | Counted in Search Share |
| Client sharing | Share links, password protection, custom domain, PDF and CSV | Built for local SEO agencies, freelancers and in-house marketers |
What is the main difference between the two tools?
Whitespark measures rank positions in depth; Sure Shot Systems measures presence across four Google surfaces in one score.
Whitespark’s Local Rank Tracker tracks each keyword at each tracking location and separates the Local Pack from organic results “so you can see how your true organic rankings are improving or decreasing over time.” It rolls those positions into a Visibility Score, “a weighted metric based on the estimated click-through rate of your combined ranking positions,” and lets you add competitors and run comparison reports against them. The answer it gives is “where do we rank, keyword by keyword.”
Sure Shot Systems Local Rank Tracker answers “where do we show up.” Search Share is the percentage of Google’s four local result types where a business shows up for the searches that bring it jobs, across its service area.
Does Whitespark have a geo-grid?
Yes, but the geo-grid is a separate product called Whitespark Local Ranking Grids, so buying Local Rank Tracker does not give you grid scans. Whitespark’s pricing page lists them as two products.
The grid tool itself is flexible. According to the Local Ranking Grids page, you can “use anywhere from 4 to 225 grid points,” run ad hoc scans or schedule them daily, weekly or monthly, and “each grid point costs 1 credit to scan,” so a 5×5 grid uses 25 credits every time it runs.
That credit rule is where agencies get surprised: grid spend follows point count and scan frequency, not client count, so moving one client from weekly to daily scans multiplies its credit use about seven times.

What will the same report cost in each system?
Whitespark is the cheaper software: for five clients, its tracker plus grids runs about $70 to $120 a month, though the two products measure different things.
As of September 2026, Whitespark’s pricing page lists Local Rank Tracker from $14 to $200 a month and Local Ranking Grids from $10 a month. The tracker is priced by location keywords, and its Agency tier covers 1,000 of them for $60 to $100 a month depending on billing and tracking frequency (Local Rank Tracker). Grids are priced by credits: 2,000 for $10 a month, 5,000 for $20 (Local Ranking Grids). For example, five clients tracking 20 keywords in 5 locations each need 500 location keywords, which lands on that Agency tier. Weekly 5×5 grids for all five use about 540 credits a month (25 credits x 52 scans / 12 months x 5), inside the $10 plan; weekly 15×15 grids use about 4,875, inside the $20 plan.
Our prices are flat, with no credits to buy: Solo $99 and Pro $249 a month per business, Agency $499 a month for five client slots, and an Execution add-on at $349 a month per business for the Google work itself.
At five clients, our Agency plan costs about $380 to $430 a month more than Whitespark’s software. You can see what the Sure Shot Systems Local Rank Tracker measures and decide whether that number is worth the difference.
Can either one track AI Overviews and Google AI Mode?
Sure Shot does: its report shows whether Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode cite the client or someone else, keyword by keyword, and names the competitors cited instead (Sure Shot). Whitespark’s rank tracker and grid pages do not list AI answer tracking as of September 2026.
Whitespark’s Local Ranking Grids page mentions AI in a different sense: “Connect your favourite AI tools via MCP, and let them dig into your grids, scan history, competitor data, and more.” That lets an AI assistant read your grid data; it is not tracking of Google’s AI answers.
That gap shows up in client reporting. Whitespark’s own May 2025 AI Overviews study ran 540 queries across three cities and six industries and found AI Overviews on an average 68% of them, while only 39% returned a local pack, so a report built only on pack and organic positions leaves out the surface that appeared most often.
Who is the report for: your team or your client?
Whitespark serves both your team and your client: analysts work in the data, and the same results can go straight to clients under your own domain. On the Local Rank Tracker page, you can “create a unique URL to share campaign ranking results without needing an account,” password-protect the link, use a custom domain such as rankings.yoursite.com, export to CSV “or get a nice PDF report to share with clients,” and send daily, weekly or monthly email updates to your own or your clients’ inbox. The grid tool shares grids through “live, white-label, shareable URLs.”
Sure Shot’s Agency plan puts your logo, your sender domain and your brand on every report and dashboard, and each client gets a dashboard page with trend charts and the report archive, with no login (Sure Shot). Its limit is scope, since Search Share is Google-only, so an agency whose client reports depend on Bing data should keep a tracker that covers Bing.

When should an agency use both together?
Yes: use Whitespark for specialist measurement and Sure Shot Systems for recurring client reporting and work on the account, as long as you accept two software bills and name one source of truth, so the client report never quotes two conflicting numbers.
Choose Whitespark if:
- An analyst needs keyword-by-keyword positions to diagnose a drop.
- A client needs a dense grid over one metro, scanned on a schedule you set.
- The team wants to compare the client against named competitors on the same keywords.
Choose Sure Shot Systems if:
- The client asks whether the business appears in Google’s AI answers, not only the map pack.
- You also want the Google work done on the account.

Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is Whitespark’s rank tracking?
Whitespark markets “pinpoint accuracy” on its Local Rank Tracker page, but we found no public, controlled head-to-head accuracy test of Whitespark against other trackers, so treat accuracy claims from any vendor, including us, with care. The fair test is your own: run the same keywords and locations in both tools for a few weeks and compare how consistent each one is.
Can I try either tool before paying?
Yes. Whitespark offers “a free 14 day trial” of Local Rank Tracker (Whitespark) and 200 free Local Ranking Grids credits with no credit card needed (Whitespark). Sure Shot Systems Local Rank Tracker carries a 60-day prove-it refund instead of a trial.
How do I check my ranking?
Searching your own keyword will not tell you, because Google personalizes by location and history. Use a tracker that fixes the search location and repeats the same check on a schedule, so you compare like with like. For a service-area business, check from several points across the area you serve, since one point says little about the rest of it.
Can I do local SEO myself?
Yes for the basics: a complete Google Business Profile, accurate hours, real photos, steady review requests and service pages for the towns you cover. In our LDC Framework work, typical timing is 30 to 60 days for map pack movement and 3 to 6 months for organic results, with no promised date for AI answers. Those are ranges, not promises. For Precision Patch Pros, a Bakersfield drywall company on our Starter plan, the first paid click after its February 2026 Google Ads rebuild cost $1.94, and that lead closed the next day for $2,915.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
No. Whitespark’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey asked 47 local search experts to score 187 factors and, for the first time, to rate each factor’s impact on visibility in AI search responses. The same report says “local search has remained somewhat insulated from this AI upheaval.” AI added a surface to win; it did not remove the others.
Where does BrightLocal fit next to Whitespark?
BrightLocal bundles its tools into tiered plans (Track, Manage and Grow) that include a Local Rank Tracker, a Local Search Grid, a Citation Tracker, local SEO audits and white-label reports (BrightLocal pricing), while Whitespark sells each tool separately. A brightlocal vs whitespark decision usually comes down to one platform for everything or a separate tool for each job.
