The map pack is the box of three businesses with a map that shows up when someone searches "plumber near me" or "AC repair" in your town. For a lot of homeowners, it's where the search ends and the call starts.
Google's help page on local ranking says these results are based mainly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. You can't change how far a homeowner is from your shop, so we work on the other two: how well your profile matches the search, and how well known your business is.
The map pack is the second of four surfaces in our LDC Framework, right after paid search. It takes longer than ads, and once it's working, those calls come without a cost per click.
Distance does a lot of the work close to your address. A few miles out, businesses closer to the searcher start winning unless your profile gives Google a stronger reason to show you.
That reason comes from the details: the right primary category, a complete services list, steady new reviews, real photos and a website with a page for each service and town. When a profile was set up years ago and left alone, those signals fade.
Spam doesn't help either. Fake listings and names stuffed with keywords can take spots that should go to real companies.
"We show up when I search from the office, and my techs say we're nowhere in the next town over."
"A listing called 'Best Plumber Near Me' keeps beating us, and I don't think it's even a real company."
"Our reviews are good, but most of them are a couple of years old."
"Someone set up our profile years ago and nobody has touched it since."

Thanks for having us out. When you have a minute, would you tell other homeowners about the job and your town in a Google review?

Once you show up, homeowners compare what they see. In BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 (1,002 US adults), 31% said they will only use a business rated 4.5 stars or higher, and 74% said they look for reviews written in the last three months.
So a profile with old reviews or a thin photo gallery can lose the call even when it shows up. A steady flow of recent reviews helps you rank and helps you get chosen.
One ranking check from your office tells you very little. Our Local Rank Tracker runs weekly grid scans across your service area: real Google searches from points spread over the area you serve, recording who shows in the top 3 at each point.
You see a map with your strong areas and your gaps, which competitors win where, and how it changed since last week. The grid feeds your Search Share, our weekly measure of how often you show up across ads, the map pack, organic results and AI answers. More on how this works in local rank tracking in 2026.

In 60 seconds, a map pack grid for your main service shows where you're in the top 3 today and where you aren't.
Reply to your snapshot email and ask for a call. Send it before noon Eastern on a business day and Ben calls you back the same day. After noon, he calls the next business day. On the call, Ben goes through the grid with you and asks which towns and jobs matter most.
We fix your categories, services, photos and service area setup, set up your review request email and check your area for spam.
We add the photos you send, publish posts, send review requests, help with replies and report the fake listings we find.
Your weekly written report shows the map changing week by week, and you go over it with Ben on your monthly strategy call.

Our monthly plans run 1, 3 or 6 sprints a month, starting at $2,750 a month. A sprint is one focused improvement, finished and live within the month, and a Google Business Profile tune-up is one sprint on our sprint menu. You pick each month's sprints with Ben on the monthly strategy call.
If you only want your profile fixed once, the GBP Tune-Up is $750. It covers categories, services, photos, your review link and review request setup, and a spam check.

It's the ongoing work of setting up and maintaining your Business Profile so Google shows it for more of the searches that bring you jobs. That covers categories, services, photos, reviews, posts and fixing problems like spam listings or a wrong service area.
You can't pay to move up in the regular map pack. Google's own help page says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. You can pay for the sponsored spot, since Google Search Ads with location assets can show at the top of Google Maps and in the map pack. We cover that on our Google Ads page.
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search, distance is how far you are from the searcher, and prominence is how well known you are, which includes your reviews. We work on relevance and prominence, since distance is fixed.
There's no set number. You need enough recent, good reviews to compare well with the top 3 in each town you serve. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 74% of consumers look for reviews written in the last three months, so a steady flow of new reviews counts for a lot.
By email, after each finished job, through the system your office already uses where we can. The email asks the customer to describe the job and the town in their own words. It never suggests what to write or what rating to give, and nothing is offered in return. We don't text customers for reviews.
Our one-time GBP Tune-Up is $750 and covers categories, services, photos, review setup and a spam check. Inside a monthly plan, a Google Business Profile tune-up uses 1 sprint, and plans start at $2,750 a month.
Yes, and many owners handle the basics well: the right categories, a full services list, real photos and asking every customer for a review. The harder parts are seeing where you rank across your whole service area and dealing with spam listings, and that's where weekly grid scans help.
The free Demand Gap Snapshot shows where you're in the top 3 across your service area, whether you appear in ads, organic results and AI answers, and your top 3 fixes.
